JEWELS of the SEASON

Greene and Greene Gallery is presenting their annual Holiday Jewelry Show featuring new work by several award winning national and international artists. The show is focused on one of a kind and limited edition jewelry pieces created out of metal including, but not limited to, gold (18K,22K, 24K) platinum, and sterling silver, many with precious and semi-precious gemstones, as well.
When Michael Good puts his hammer to the metal, primarily 18K gold or platinum, wonderful things occur. His “anticlastic raising” technique, that he pioneered and perfected create forms where radiant curves develop and appear to dance in and around each other. His necklaces, earrings and bracelets seem to “bask in an energy all their own ... his jewelry engages the eye in an entirely new way with an artistic flair and philosophical expression that mirrors its creator.”
Todd Reed discovered his passion for jewelry making at the age of 18 while making silver buttons for leather products that he was creating. Through utilization of hand forging and fabrication of high karat gold and sterling silver as his tools, he has been able to express his passion for the power of art of adornment and explore hi interest in contrast and contradiction. This is most evident in his choice of materials throughout his collection in which he contrasts fine 22K gold to black (oxidized) sterling silver and to diamonds in the raw.
Gurhan, of Turkish descent, is renowned for his warm, sensual jewelry made exclusively in 24K gold. He has…”revolutionized the perception of 24K gold by transporting it from the realms of ethnic and historical jewelry into the 21st century with designs relevant to today.” Gurhan states that he “seeks to evoke the past in the context of the present…just as pure gold lasts forever, my designs are for all times and for all women.” His spectacular collection of necklaces, earrings , bracelets, and rings are testimony to this enduring principle.
Janet Alix is a skilled metal smith with an excellent eye for color. She was trained in Europe and the United States and she combines high karat gold with beautiful gemstones and delicate gold granulation. She believes that a beautiful piece of jewelry should also be wearable and says, “My clients are like me, and lead active lives. They want stunning jewelry that survives a kid’s hug in the morning, a day at work, and a night out.” Her inspired collection of rings, bracelets and necklaces is a reflection of this ideal.
Barbara Heinrich grew up on a farm in Heibronn, Germany where she remembers collecting pods scattered around that she strung with dyed noodles and broken snail shells. She has evolved into a jewelry maker of international merit and now sorts through various colored and shaped gemstones that are set in high karat gold and platinum with incredble technical mastery. The result is a uniquely distinctive design style that reveals a classical yet contemporary inspiration evident throughout her collection.
This 2006 Holiday Show will also feature jewelry artists, David Bachrach, Margaret Barnaby, Pamela Bosco, Coomi, Pat Flynn, Hannelor Gabriel, Catherine Hylands, Mia Katrin, Ayesha Mayadas, Saundra Messinger, Judith Neugabauer, Norah Pierson and Amy Kahn Russell,
Greene and Greene Gallery features an ongoing exhibit of finely crafted home and personal accessories in wood, metal , clay fiber and glass. They are the exclusive showroom for the contemporary, classical furniture designs of Jeffrey Greene.
The public is invited to attend an open house on Friday, November 17, 2006 from 4:00 am-7:00 pm to celebrate the beginning of the annual Holiday Jewelry exhibit at Greene and Greene Gallery. “Jewels of the Season” will run from November !8 – December 31.
